I only use few chat apps like Discord Snapchat and messenger. There is no getting around this because your tablet would be useless without the Android Operating System. The amount of space the operating system uses will depend on the Android OS the tablet uses.
I wouldnt even consider a phone with only 1GB of ram but this is a good question for a tablet particularly given that KitKat is supposed to be more efficient with ram.
I dont think its enough although google claims lollipop utilize ram usage better than before but my experience is that it actually takes more ram for the OS. It depends on many things if we go back some years even 1 GB ram is enough for our smartphones. If you have a powerful enough processor having just 1GB of RAM isnt necessarily a limitation. However you can expect it to take at least 5GB at the minimum.
